The Marine Department Supports Harry Styles’ Dramatic Ocean Scene

Filming for the upcoming romantic drama My Policeman brought the cast and crew to the shores of Brighton. Behind the scenes, the Marine Department was there to ensure everything went smoothly, particularly during one of the most demanding sequences featuring Harry Styles!

Set in the 1950s and based on Bethan Roberts’ novel, My Policeman tells the story of Tom, a closeted gay policeman caught between societal expectations and a secret love affair. Harry Styles plays the younger Tom, while Linus Roache portrays the older version of the character. The production has been praised for its visual authenticity and part of that realism meant Harry had to strip down and dive into real water.

To execute this safely, the Marine Department provided crucial support on the day of the shoot. From the moment Harry boarded one of Marine Dept’s vessels, our team was on hand to assist with maritime logistics, safety coordination and equipment transport. As he leapt into the sea, Marine Department crew remained nearby, closely monitoring conditions and ready to intervene if needed.

After completing the scene, Harry was helped back ashore by the crew. It was a seamless operation – thanks to detailed planning between production managers and the Marine Department’s experienced team.

Linus Roache was also spotted filming a similar water scene later that day, again supported by Marine Department crew members standing by to ensure his safety as he entered and exited the water.

Working on high-profile productions like My Policeman is not new for the Marine Department, but the Brighton shoot stood out for its emotionally charged content and the physical endurance required of the cast. It’s a reminder that even in the world of film, where much can be faked, sometimes the best scenes demand real water, real weather and real support from maritime experts.

We’re proud to have played a part in helping bring this poignant story to life!
